Many people all over the globe have seen the bullfights in Spain through televisions and video shows but actual witnessing of such great event is great, right? Okay, prepare yourself and I am bringing you now to the bullfighting arena.

Bullfighting is a long tradition many centuries ago brought to Spain by the Visigoths. The tradition that is still practice today in Spain involves professional Toreros or Matadores executing special skills to control the aggressiveness of the attacking animal. The Toreros would masterfully and skillfully take control of the bull out to kill him if he does not show excellent and graceful performance to overpower the killer bull.

While there are sad stories of the Toreros who died while on performance because of the extremity of the show, bullfighting continue to gain acceptance among the Spaniards as among the best event in the country.

In fact, bullfighting was already widely accepted by visiting tourists and vacationers as among the best destinations and events to personally witness when going to the eight largest and most developed country of the world.

However, there are also animal rights advocates in Spain that protested to this tradition, arguing that the rights of the bull in this case are being violated. The advocates continue to their grievances, but the wide acceptance in the whole of Spain, have also drawn thousands of protesting animal rights advocates. Bullfighting is banned in many countries and people taking part would be held liable and subjected to imprisonment as provided for under animal cruelty laws.

In 2004, the Barcelona city council had reached to a dramatic voting banning the bullfight activity. Still, bullfighting in Barcelona is unstoppable. However, some other towns in Spain have decided to ban this.

Styles of bullfighting
Historically, there are five distinct regional styles in bullfighting practiced by the people southwestern Europe, more particularly in Andalusia, Aragon_Navarre, Alentejo, Camargue, and Aquitaine.
As time went by, the fighting has evolved in many centuries. Traditionally, the bullfight would end with the bull being killed as a finale of the event. This classic bullfight is practiced in Spain, Southern France, and many Latin American countries.

Spanish-style bullfighting
The Spanish-style bullfighting includes three Toreros or Matadores, each fights two bulls, and each of bull is at least four years old and weights 460-600 kg. This is called corrida.
Today, the bullfighting in some areas in Spain is also modernized in as far as rituals and other new enhancements. A trumpet will be heard and bullfighting participants will also enter the arena and do some salutation to the invited dignitaries. Although their costumes are still 18th century inspired which also made the tourney full of spectacular and excitements for the people and foreign guests in attendance.

So, when you’re Spain, see to it that the spectacular bullfighting is on schedule and as part of your itinerary in your summer vacations. Never go back to your country when you cannot personally witness the ‘controversial’ bullfighting in Spain.
